Metallization - Wire metallization or Schooping
Wire plating, also known as Schooping, is a coating technique that involves introducing a wire-like material into the center of an oxy-fuel flame produced by a torch.
The flame melts the filler material, while a jet of compressed air atomizes and projects the molten droplets onto the substrate. This process forms a protective layer with improved mechanical and chemical properties.
This was one of the first thermal spraying methods developed and served as the basis for more modern technologies such as plasma spraying and HVOF spraying.
Benefits
The advantages of wire bonding
– Improved friction: Reduced wear due to friction thanks to a durable coating.
– Anti-corrosion: Optimal protection against corrosion, even in aggressive environments.
– Explosion-proof: Reduces the risk of ignition in explosive environments.
– Thick coatings: Thick layers can be applied for enhanced protection.
– Mechanical resistance: Increased resistance to abrasion and impact.
